2008 Kids State (Spokane) Congratulations to both Tristian Norton and Wyatt Moore who both placed in the 2008 Kids State Freestyle Championships in Spokane on Saturday, May 3rd.

Tristian (Midget - #65) placed second in Pool B, before crossing over and defeating the Pool A Champion in the semi-finals. In the Championship match he lost a second match against Isaac Romero of Victory wrestling to earn a Silver medal. All of the opponent’s Tristian defeated in his Pool B, went on to win in placing matches and is indicative of the toughness of Saturday’s competition.

In the Schoolboy 136 division, Northshore junior high 8th grader Wyatt Moore competed in his first State Championship and wrestled really well! Wrestling in five matches–an entire jr. high season–in one day, he was in every match having won a round against opponents in all of his matches. Like Tristian, Wyatt also placed second place in his pool, before crossing over into the championship bracket. Wyatt lost two close matches and placed fourth overall.

Daniel Nelson (Inglemoor Junior) continued his winning ways with another victory at the USA Everett Tournament held at Cascade High School this weekend. Gaining additional experience and mat time with 5 matches on the day, Daniel won the combined 152-160 weight class.

Tristan Norton went up a weight class in an attempt to gain valuable experience in preparation for Kids’ State next week, wrestling six matches and placing 2nd.

USA Cobra and Inglemoor Senior Rowan Pilger participated in the United States Girls Wrestling Association (USGWA) National Championship on March X & Y in Litovia, Michigan, wrestling 6 times and placing 6th to earn her another All-American recognition.

Last year Rowan placed in USA Wrestling’s Junior National tournament in Fargo, North Dakota.

This is Rowan’s second trip to Michigan and the USGWA Nationals. Last year she lost to eventual champion Erin Clodgo in the quarterfinals, before losing a 14-12 heartbreaker.

This year, Rowan had three pins, 2 losses and was pinned in the 5th-6th match.  The top eight girls are awarded All-American status in the USGWA tournament, the largest womens’ national championship in the country.
